Touring in support of their third studio album Blue Weekend, Wolf Alice made a stop in Minneapolis, MN for a sold-out show at the Fine Line.

In their last performance supporting Wolf Alice, THE BLOSSOM (stage moniker of LA-based singer Lily Lizotte) gave an energetic and passionate performance. Although unknown to most in the audience, Lizotte’s emotive stage presence kept the room on its toes. The three-piece was a delight to watch. Expressing their gratitude toward the end of their set, Lizotte bounded off the stage to let their bandmates conclude the set in a flourish of drumming and guitar play.

After what seemed like a drawn out changeover, Wolf Alice took to the Fine Line stage to roaring cheers with bassist Theo Ellis raising his cup to the crowd in greeting. The four-piece, joined by touring member Ryan Malcolm, flew right into heavy-hitting Smile. Lead singer Ellie Rowsell took a pause after You’re A Germ to take in the crowd, absolutely beaming.

During a particularly tender moment, guitarist and founding member Joff Oddie encouraged a singalong of Safe From Heartbreak. This wasn’t the first or only time the group encouraged crowd participation. It served as an excellent reminder, especially after the week’s events, that concerts should be a safe, celebratory space that fosters a communal and respectful experience.

After this brief interlude of calm, Rowsell changed gears into a stellar performance of Play The Greatest Hits, one of the band’s most energetic tunes. Every song built upon the energy of the previous; I could mention each one by name and offer up a highlight or element that took my breath away. After concluding their main set with Last Man On Earth, Wolf Alice returned for a two-song encore. Ending with Don’t Delete The Kisses off of 2017’s Visions of a Life, Wolf Alice was met with extended and warm applause.

Wolf Alice’s Blue Weekend is a sure contender for album of the year. I felt extremely honored to be able to hear many of its songs in a live setting, and I’m sure that all in attendance felt the same. Their US tour continues through November 20, you can find dates here.
